The Great and Secret Source of Self-Transformation
Talk summary: In this podcast, Guy Finley talks about how our awareness of the true needs of other human beings heralds within us the birth of true compassion.
Talk notes: One of the most important things that we need to know in this life is also probably the last thing that we want to hear: we do not see the pain of others. Except in very rare instances, we do not see the weary hearts, the shattered hopes, nor the burdens that other human beings carry around with them. We are not aware of the weight that others are carrying because we are too busy trying to get rid of what we are carrying.
One of the great spiritual mysteries is that the birth of compassion within us is directly proportionate to our ability to see the pain of another person. Why would we want to become conscious of the pain of another human being? In any real moment of awareness of another human being, a guiding compassion that is greater than either person is brought into the moment by an act of a greater conscience. This true compassion gives the human being a reason for existence that transcends his or her own selfish pursuits.
