Talk notes: We are all born with a wish to belong to something greater than ourselves. We know intuitively that we are meant to roam the universe of ourselves and break free from the shackles of our petty fears and negative states. And yet there is a tremendous interior struggle that takes place between the part of us that wants to enter into a larger world, and the part of us that wants to remain in its small world.

In order to enter into the higher world that we long for, we must learn to carry our share of it. We must begin to accept all that we are -- both the light and the dark. There is nothing romantic in this. To be a part of the higher world, we must assume our share of its burden. This is the cost. As long as the mind continues to pursue only what it wants, welcoming only that which is flattering, there can be no direct communion with anything higher than ourselves. The door to a higher life is always open. Our part is to be present to the whole of the moment, which includes a willingness to see everything we are shown about ourselves.
