What most of us take for mostly innocent “social conversation”... is far from
that; we’d be better off seeing these dialogues – including what drives them –
for what they are in reality: a “cover-up,” where the real reason behind any
compulsive chattering – with others, or in “talking things over” with ourselves –
is this false belief: talking about what disturbs us is the same as walking away
from the lower level of consciousness within us that’s responsible for its pain.
Exercise
Our experiences in life are inseparable from how we perceive them. We suffer as we do because we get stuck in a consciousness that is IMAGINED. This consciousness "denies reality" - especially in unwanted moments - in exchange for the "Stories" it tells itself, about itself and about the moment. This mind is always talking to itself: to console itself, to explain or justify itself, to shore up its false foundation. Work to catch "A.P.C.S." (Ap-Ces): Another Pointless Conversation Syndrome. What are examples of Another Pointless Conversation that you can see your mind constantly engages in? Examples: Revisiting anything in the past, Any negative assumption made about the future, conversations with someone who's not even present, random thoughts, etc. Recognize that the minute you're not practically occupied with something, your mind is in "a story". Drop the story in exchange for real Life.
