Until we can be aware of -- present to -- the fact that the Light of the Divine never leaves us -- even should we find ourselves full of darkness -- we can never really understand the appearance and the purpose of any fearful negative state, let alone how it's possible to die to it... and to the “fearful self,” as well.
Part 2
There is no possibility of freeing ourselves from whatever we fear without realizing that its power over us is rooted in the following false belief: not only are we supposed to know -- in advance -- everything that's about to happen to us, but that whatever does unfold must never challenge anything about our life... as we've imagined it!
Exercise
"Am I dread or alive?" When we are full of dread, we are fully identified with a level of consciousness whose sole interest is to keep itself in the dark. Worried, anxious thoughts and feelings are indications that we are in the dread zone, a place of fear and useless suffering, where there is no life. At the onset of a negative reaction inwardly ask, "Am I dread or am I alive in this moment?" The task is to catch yourself in the dread zone and by a new light realize the lifeless nature of that consciousness. We must see with as much honesty as we're capable of, that the momentary appearance of any fearful thought or feeling is not something that we are intended to avoid at all costs, but rather we are to bring that thought or feeling into the light of a higher awareness.
