It is a strange characteristic of most human beings that we would rather feel anxious and strained about things over which we have no power, than to do the one thing actually in our power -- for whose conscious practice we would know the very peace we claim to be seeking. And that is: to ground our attention in the fact of the moment where no worried or stressful feeling can enter.

Exercise
In order to find real life, we must lose our false life. Before we can lose that "life", we must first awaken to the nature that unconsciously picks up all the pains and problems that we believe we have already let go of. Real letting go is seeing the nature that clings. It is learning to separate FACTS from FEELINGS that call themselves "facts". "Illuminate Before You Identify". In an unwanted moment, when feeling frightened, upset, irritated, etc., work to recognize the "fact of myself" vs. the "feeling of myself". Ask simply: "How does this feel?" "Am I in charge of this feeling, or it me?" "Is this good for me? Good for anybody?" If the answer to these questions is "Bad" or "No", this is all you need to see. In really seeing and feeling the fact of yourself in that moment, a new need is created: a need to consciously suffer that which no longer serves you. "Becoming" dies and "Being" takes it place. It's only here that real life and real freedom can be found.
