Along the upper path that leads Home, there are many phenomenal events that first tempt, and then -- God willing -- liberate the aspirant. The first temptation is the dream of being someone spiritually special: an image whose upkeep is the pain of being in conflict with any experience that denies its existence. Liberation, by grace, is seeing this conflict for what it is: the inescapable suffering born of having identified with an imagined self whose "dream" creates each dungeon into which we find ourselves cast. To suffer this realization, consciously, is the same as our release from what is nothing more than a bad dream we didn't know we were in!
