Rhonda July 04, 2021 So does this mean that we should actively stop "talking things over" with ourselves and others? If dialogue about an issue that disturbs us is a cover-up, then what do we call it when we actively suppress any thoughts or discussion about a disturbing issue? Heaven knows that I've tried this approach--shoving any and all upsetting issues deep down into my psyche, forcing myself to smile and think about something else, never allowing an utterance about an upsetting thought to make its way out of my mouth. For me, this resulted in panic attacks where I didn't even know what was causing the panic because I had habitually shunned any thoughts or discussion about those issues and pushed them deep down and out of my awareness. Unfortunately, it seems that refusing to dialogue about something that disturbs us doesn't make it go away. If only it were so!
