Vernon Howard was a bit harsh in his assessments of people. He believed you shouldn't help others. I think we all need help because many of us are blind. Would you help anyone that came to you, even "undeserving" people? Aren't we all undeserving? Vernon spoke of "super-sickies." Are there such people?
Yes, while it's true, most are indeed blind, and are, at the outset, in need of compassion and guidance. But there are, at the same time, many who refuse to see the truth of themselves... even when "God Himself" would make evident where they have stumbled upon the wrong path.
Such individuals not only care nothing for themselves, but as a result, are the first to be totally careless with the life of anyone else that he or she can deceive into walking along with them... down the same dark road. Mr. Howard was never cruel, and just as a child may perceive his parent to be harsh towards one of his friends that always gets him in trouble, such "harshness" is an act of love; sometimes it just takes longer to see it.
