Fear -- or any negative state that persists as a power to punish us -- is the inevitable result of believing that we are something that we are not. Once we see the definitive link between the fear, worry, or anger we feel, and the particular false sense of self that doesn't exist without these punishing states, our choice becomes clear: Either we agree to live with these negative states, ever struggling, in vain, to control any unwanted moment that challenges our false self... Or, we choose to go through that fear, once and for all, in order to see that who we are, in reality, is not who we have imagined ourselves to be.

The fear of being misjudged belongs to a mechanical part of you that doesn't understand anything, let alone the fear it has of its own tendency to instantly turn dark and defensive should anyone dare question its nearly perfect understanding.

False certainty is a fool's certainty: it is based in the illusion that the more strongly we feel about any given moment -- in particular, the more negative we are over whatever may have transpired -- proves not only the truth of our unique perception... but also why we're so certain that whatever conclusion we reach goes well beyond the measure of any doubt.

Part 2

The reason that it never occurs to us to doubt our negative states is because to do so would require us to doubt our very identity in that same moment.

What is True is quiet; it is at peace with itself, whatever it silently reveals. What is untrue has no such peace; it is unable to be silent. What is True has no need to think about, let alone talk to itself about any lie it may see. What is untrue can't stop talking to itself in order to cover up what it doesn't want to see, ceaselessly telling itself that it sees truly.

We not only claim any pain that we name, but then -- in our attempt to "tame" it -- are turned into the unwitting servant of the very suffering that we are complicit in creating and sustaining.

If someone can say something to you about yourself that causes you to crash and burn -- so that you never stop smoldering over what they have said -- it's only because you have yet to see the truth of yourself. Here's the fact that not only proves the above, but within it rests the only real solution to this kind of suffering: Any truth you realize about yourself cancels both the fear of that truth as well as the level of self that lives in fear of it.

The idea that all good things must come to an end is only half of the real the story. Here's the other half: it's equally true that what is Good in life is always just beginning.

What is any true form of poetry, whether expressed in verse, action, or some sublime vision revealed, other than the heart -- having been awakened -- stretching her wings into worlds unknown and, upon arriving there, claiming them as her own... As does the Eagle the open skies through which it soars.

There is neither success nor failure when it comes to the work of self-realization. Revelation is not our victory, and what is revealed is not our loss.

Anything that tries to change, or otherwise interfere with some revelation of what is true about your self can neither be illuminated, nor transformed by that revelation. That condition, as well as the level of self that creates and sustains it... is darkness itself.
