The "chasm" you speak of is actually a requirement of the upper path... and while it seems a burden for a while to feel oneself more and more alone, estranged from people, etc., the truth of the matter is quite different.
As one changes one's interior gravity, the material of one's "center", so to speak, there is a natural drifting, a floating away from the worlds one was formerly drawn to; this is the "lost in space" part of the path that tests what one really loves. Then, gradually, but definitively, one feels a new attraction to another kind of world within oneself; this new world is far more integrated than former ones and, as such, requires far less stimulation and sensation as was provided by past relationships, etc. So, in a word, there is first a kind of loneliness and then a new kind of oneness. All is well. Persist.
