Exercise
Catch the "rememoract." Memory holds within it all of the reaction that transpired during a first experience of an unwanted moment because it was never allowed to complete itself as intended. So that every time we meet someone or see something that even seems to correspond to someone or something like that past, it triggers us. The exercise is to catch the rememoract – memory combined with its reaction. Never turn your back on any implied fear or threat, but turn and look at its face instead. Looking directly into the face of that moment reveals that it is, in fact, made of your own image, made of something that lives in you that does not want you to be free of its influences. The more you see that it is made in your own image, the more you stand as an impartial witness to that fact and the more you see the illusion fall apart and the whole consciousness that was your captivity disappear into a new order of understanding that cannot be made a captive of anything.
