Connect being terrified with being identified. There is an unseen relationship between being terrified and being identified. The more identified we are with what we want, the more terrified we are of any condition that comes along to challenge what we want. The first step into fearless living begins with understanding the actual nature of fear itself, not what fear is pointing to. Here we begin to realize that just as painful resistance and unconscious insistence go hand-in-hand, so is it true that being terrified is the same as being identified with something outside of yourself. And identification produces a sense of self that feels threatened anytime conditions change. Make a list of what you're secretly afraid of, and in those moments when you start to feel some form of fear, instead of being captured by what the fear is telling you is its cause, observe the fear itself and see that you can't feel that fear without being identified with something you've imagined you must have.
