Student Q&A With Guy
You have several opportunities to ask your questions of Guy directly and hear his eye-opening, often surprising answers.
Topics covered: Each of us has three different "bodies": a physical body, an intellectual body, and an emotional body. These three bodies are presently disconnected from each other; The physical, intellectual and emotional bodies are intended to work in concert, but they are almost always in conflict with one another; There exists a higher body altogether that is always present, but we are not present to its influence.
Topics covered: For things to change, familiar reactions need to be met with something different than what you usually meet them with. You are going to have to meet the moment with something that does not repeat itself; You are going to have to change that moment as you enter into it, not after it has happened; The Divine junction is the place where the Will of Heaven touches the will of earth.
Topics covered: Stop making life so hard for yourself and others. Stop believing that it is other people and circumstances that make life hard on you; We go to war with people whenever they deny us something that we think we are owed; Do your solutions bring an end to having enemies? If they did, the world would have stopped making war long ago.
Topics covered: You can't know with your mind what is calling you to make the interior journey that saints and sages have spoken about; "Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there." -- Jalal al-Din Rumi -- "For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." -- New Testament -- These two passages are essentially saying the same thing; Part of the interior journey is to enter into another order of being that allows for the opposites to pass through its field of awareness, but is never defined by those opposites.
Topics covered: Most human beings believe that they already know what love is, as well as what it means to be loved; To discover what love is begins with seeing what it is not; We believe that power is found in the part. It is that very belief that is the pain.
Topics covered: Until your attention is free, you are a captive of every condition that your attention falls on. To free your own attention means to possess your own attention; "You never enjoy the world aright till the Sea itself floweth in your veins, till you are clothed with the heavens, and crowned with the stars, and perceive yourself to be the sole heir of the whole world, and more than so, because men are in it who are every one sole heirs as well as you." -- Thomas Traherne (1637 – 1674)
Topics covered: Most of us try to prove to the world that we understand, and then we are in conflict with anyone who does not acknowledge us; If you are not renewed, you cannot have new understanding. If you ARE renewed, then you can have endless new understanding; There must be a sacrifice of something old in order to find new understanding. No sacrifice, no change is possible.
Topics covered: You are never going to have a life that is completely free of troubles, but you can understand the nature of those troubles; Letting go has nothing to do with what the mind points to as the source of its pain; If you are not in contact with your body, then you are only in contact with thoughts and the sensations that are produced by identifying with them.
Topics covered: Our lives are spent in an almost endless conflict with everyone and everything that we believe to be the cause of our pain and negativity; We pretend to be someone because we do not know who we really are; Discovering who you really are comes with the cost of discovering all that you are NOT.
Topics covered: The interior path does not necessarily change what you do with your life, but it will change the reason why you do it; "'Master, which is the great commandment in the law?' Jesus said unto him, 'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.'" -- New Testament; Every law that is made to resolve a conflict creates more conflict, which then requires the creation of more laws to replace the law that did not work.
Topics covered: You do not really understand something until you understand it with all parts of yourself. The intellect alone can only go so far, and can in fact hinder understanding; The New Testament story of Christ being tempted is the story of yourself. It is a teaching story that is your story; The last thing that we want to know is that we have no power of our own, and that all power belongs to, and comes from, what is higher than ourselves.
Topics covered: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase 'each other' doesn’t make any sense. The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep. You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep. People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds...
