Whoever doesn't know the truth of himself, suffers uselessly for the sake of ignorance. Whoever works to know the truth of Self, agrees to suffer ignorance for the sake of Wisdom. Becoming wise, he "slays" the lower self, as well as its suffering. And in having transcended the useless suffering born of self-ignorance -- and the death it leads to -- he shares in the birth and burden of creation, in which can be found no greater peace or joy.

See how many times you can catch when a disturbance occurs inwardly, there's a struggle between "I's" in you, and then a false "peacemaker" is formed. For example, when you find yourself judging another person -- there's the "I" that was disturbed by what they did, the "I" that now feels superior to what it's comparing itself to -- and then in comes an "I" that has a solution for reconciling the disturbance. Your wish to be present to this mind that is ceaselessly churning out "I's" will gradually produce in you enough separation so that you start to understand that the "I's" that are quarreling with themselves are what is creating the false peacemaker. As you see that the struggle between the "I's" is not your struggle, you will realize neither is it your responsibility to be the peacemaker.
