Gluttony -- of any shape or form -- is not just the unbridled pursuit and inevitable surrender of oneself over to some physical pleasure, however embraced. Far from it: gluttony is the unappeasable longing of an unconscious nature whose favorite "food" -- when all is said and done -- is pain. How so? See it for yourself: the more this divided nature gives itself what it wants -- including pain -- the more it wants of it.

"This is not my discomfort." Become aware of whatever it is that is the dominant appetite in you, and then start to see the relationship between your pain and what you want from the world. In these moments you'll start seeing that "I'm actually suffering... but it's not 'my' suffering." With this realization comes the possibility of liberation as you begin to lose your appetite for suffering in the same way. Even though the suffering may still be there, now it's feeding you something higher instead of stealing your life.
