Talk Takeaways
We are born to search, but we keep running into dead ends, feeling like we are missing something. We only know to look for what our present level of understanding tells us is missing.
"Metanoia" refers to the possibility of a higher part of ourselves that we are not present to. We would not know that we are presently blind were it not for an order of awareness that sees.
The impressions that change our lives reveal facts about ourselves that we did not know before.
What is it in us that rejects impressions that are not flattering? There is a part of us that goes before us to ensure that healing impressions do not serve their true purpose.
Negative reactions are inseparable from unconscious resistance. Negative reactions seem to insulate us from the moment that has offended us. They seem to create a space between ourselves and the condition that we don't want. Negative reactions isolate us.
Contrary to what the negative reaction says, what we really don't want in the offending moment is the experience of ourselves.
There's no reaction in any form of creation that isn't a moment where opposing forces meet what they are drawn to. For instance, the sunlight is drawn to the leaf that requires the energy. The leaf resists the energy it doesn't need (which is why we see color) but absorbs the energy that helps it grow.
Every moment of creation includes, as it's taking place, the resistance to the reaction as part of what is being acted on, but it's doing so as part of the moment of creation.
There cannot be a disturbance in consciousness without a level of desire wanting to balance it. In nature, the intelligent rebalancing takes place seamlessly. For us, the desire to rebalance is contingent upon the level of understanding that perceives the moment.
A negative reaction seems to prove that you are different from the person you are reacting to. In other words: "I would not be like this if you were not like that."
The majority of our lives is an attempt to escape or control the reactions we have to life.
All reactions, including the ones we don't want, are the result of a timeless act of unification. The original reaction is a moment of revelation of unseen similarity.
For us presently, wholeness (holiness) is something that will arrive downstream in a time to come.
In seeing without separating yourself from what is being observed, there is just the living moment and the awareness of it. In separating ourselves from what is observed, there is a sense of self that wants or does not want what is observed.
In the Lord's prayer, the idea of "temptation" -- as in "lead us not into temptation" -- connoted the idea of struggling to complete yourself.
We do not allow the impression to complete itself because there is a part of us that fears the impression. There cannot be real freedom as long as the fear of impressions goes before us.
Exercise: Refuse no impression. Do not refuse the appearance of any reaction. Do not try to resolve any reaction with the mind. The reaction has its beginning at a level that the mind cannot understand. Reactions are never not giving birth to something. Let the entirety of the impression have its way with you.
There is a part of you that cannot act against itself because it is a part of everything that it perceives.
Being present means to receive the impressions that reveal something about yourself that you did not know the moment before.
