It is a dark and terrible deception that has been played on the minds of people that somehow being "spiritual" translates into being "successful" in the world. Please understand, it's not that being spiritual means living in poverty... only that when one realizes something of a true spirituality in his or her life, the whole fear of being "poor" disappears -- having been replaced with a quiet comfort that can't collapse when the economy does, etc.

In truth, a great deal of our daily despair over our conditions, over our "position" in life is the direct negative by-product of the (false) belief that we already know the real nature of happiness. If we really did know, would we make ourselves miserable comparing what we don't have to what we think we should? I think not.

Of course, this isn't to say that we should not pursue what we love doing -- if we have a gift of some sort and want to see it manifested. The difference is that in doing something for the sake of love we are already rewarded... and financial considerations mean little when compared to this order of consolation.

Stay true to your wish to realize the truth of yourself, and I can assure you that your life will take on increasing meaning. It is the birth of new meaning within us that is our true riches... and this growing light within you will, of itself, increasingly support you emotionally even as it reaches out into the world around you and brings you what you need to know of the fulfillment you seek.
