A Bright Lesson to Help You Make a New Beginning

We live in a time when most people have more than they need and always seek more - but they are still discontent. We don't understand the true source of it or what to do about it. There is so much rampant discontent, and it's escalating - it's epidemic. An extraordinary number of young people are on anti-depressants - children are just a reflection of their parents and a society they are born into.

If we're going to change our discontent then we have to change the mind. Discontentment feels like a power that drives me through my day. It's a compulsion. But it's actually a pretender. The seed of discontent is born out of a mind that compares. People look at themselves through comparison and imagine contentment. No sooner do we get what we want then the darkness moves in. One has to learn to see the whole of their life right now. I'm only whole right here. A true change in discontentment comes with a change to that which sees its life, not its outer circumstances.

Ellen related her experience with a rainbow - how she initially felt one with the rainbow in the moment of first viewing it, which was immediately followed by the desire to hold onto it. Then she felt divided because part of her wanted to go back to what she had been thinking about while the other part wanted to continue enjoying the moment. We are sensation mongers. We want the experience of our thoughts about things instead of just to be with those very things.

When we experience something totally new there's a recognition that we didn't create the moment - and then we go silent, and there's a marriage of love. Contentment has to do with unity but then thought snatches it. Discontentment gets thought to move along the lines of its own creation. We think our happiness is within our control. I must withdraw my attention from negative thought, from the object of its own creation. When I bring myself back there's a (re)union with the present moment, which is a living rainbow.
