Compromising ourselves in order to obtain the favor or approval of any other human being is like a man who gives away his own estate to a penniless drifter who promises him the keys to his castle in exchange!
The one who sits in quiet solitude, who is able to give thanks for the poor meal set before him, enjoys his food far more than does the one who dines on rich foods in the presence of those he detests, but whose company he must endure because he owes them thanks for his fortune.
