Stillness is the first action of truth. Stillness has no momentum, which means it never runs into anything. On the other hand, since all movement has its beginning in stillness, anything that moves into it is found to have simply returned to its original source.

Anchor yourself with awareness. Don't go adrift with the next cause. As long as we have a cause of the moment, we will never, ever awaken. Your present nature delights in conflict. Cause is the next distraction from your pain. When you pull into the harbor to escape the world around you, you ensure that you will meet that moment again and again. We are taken over by a different cause every moment. We need something that can't be acted upon by the causes in this world passing through and triggering this unconsciousness nature. Make a new choice in the moment you feel a new cause coming on. Be aware of yourself as you are in the moment, and be still enough to register the movement of your own mind. A mind that sees it is captive of every movement and cause that comes with changing conditions, can use that awareness to produce the anchor that prevents the mind being moved against itself.
