What is true and everlasting is not absent from us now. Within us resides the possibility of a relationship with certain kinds of consciousness and light whose very existence can negate what punishes us and can put us in our proper place in creation. Reality changes the size of things in our lives. What was formerly important to us becomes small when we are faced with a crisis.
In the lowlands of Scotland there was a tiny town called Dragonme where the town folk were constantly terrorized by dragons. Because of the domination of the dragons, certain traditions were formed. The town man made sacrifices to the dragons to keep them at bay. In order to escape the dragon a whole society was born whose driving pins were to find ways to deal with the dragons that belittled them. The people would pretend that everything was Ok but at home each day they woke up worrying about what dragon would appear today and punish them. They continually consulted themselves on what to do. They were always making deals with the dragon but ignored the fact that nothing ever changed. The mayor would call in every month a dragon slayer. (Our next plan to free ourselves from our pain).
One day a young man and woman who couldn't accept that their life should be dominated by dragons called a town meeting to talk about the dragons. Everyone described a slightly different dragon that attacked them. There couldn't be 100 different dragons. It must be one dragon that exhibited itself differently to everyone. So what this proved was the dragon must not have real power if it had to disguise itself to each person. So the couple asked the people to tell them their stories. One man got his arm singed and his barn burn down. Another one's cropped was destroyed and another's bull was sacrificed. But when investigated they realized that the dragon didn't do any of these things but the people did the things themselves that they held the dragon accountable for.
The young couple left the town to find real freedom and encountered a bigger more ferocious dragon but even though its roar was mighty it was unable to really do anything to them. One night they saw a dark mysterious fire and an evil wizard that conjured up dragons from the flames. A dark thought or feeling comes up and by giving it our attention it grows and becomes a huge dragon that dominates us. The evil wizard smiled and flaunted his power. The couple couldn't believe what they saw and ran away. They came upon an elderly man who when faced with a dragon pulled out a wand and sparkling dust and said to the dragon, "I command you to reveal to my inner eyes your actual nature and true size." The dragon exploded and turned into a little creature and scurried away.
There are people in this world who are little minded with little hearts who know how to feel large by having large enemies. We have to learn how to distinguish between what is little and what is large. Negative thoughts and feelings are little things, inconsequential things that are powerless but little people have to have around to feel of consequence.
Little thoughts and feelings that make us feel large:
-- Thinking about what others have done to you
-- Trying to manipulate others
-- Resenting anything or anyone
-- Complaining
-- Searching for something to blame
-- All impatience
-- Being pleased with or punished by possessions
When we inwardly bring these little thoughts and feelings into our awareness instead of our desires toward them, we bring them into a part of ourselves that can't be deceived. Awareness sees them for what they are. Nothing can lie to us in the light. We are certain of the validity of these little thoughts and feelings and we give them size and importance. Little hearts need dragons for their importance. When these dragons belittle us, we are made to serve them. When we command them to reveal their true size and nature the light shows us what they actually are. Do these negative thoughts lend us a larger life or do they drag us down?
Stop responding to these little negative thoughts and feelings and bring them into the awareness and the light of understanding will show you their actual size. There is nothing in the universe you were made to serve that punishes you. Stop agreeing to being an aching person. The Light will reveal the lying nature that is dragging you down.
