The idea of “joy” seems a bit mysterious. We hardly ever hear the word except during the Holidays, when "Joy to the World" is written across the lids of candy boxes.
We do hear a lot about “happiness.” Many “experts” tell us how to find it. There are happiness surveys – which, by the way, indicate that overall the level of human happiness is falling. Which is ironic, because these days it seems we have more ways than ever to entertain ourselves and try to answer our desires.
But as Guy Finley tells us, “The pleasures we seek in order to alleviate pain and self-doubt, or avoid emptiness, are as temporary as the conditions that create them. We are meant for much more.”
Which brings us back to “joy,” We may not know for certain what joy is, but we sense it has something to do with the “much more” Guy refers to above. Perhaps joy is a deeper, more abiding sense of well being that is far beyond any kind of quickly fading pleasure we give ourselves.
Over the years, Guy has given hints of what joy is about. Here is just a brief sampling of what he has had to say:
It sounds wonderful. But how do we go about attaining this elevated state?
We’ll be given helpful direction to start us on our way at Guy’s powerful upcoming 3-day workshop, There Is No Greater Joy in Life Than This!
We’ve all been disappointed by life, but the possibility of experiencing joy is always waiting for us. We just need to develop the ability to sense it hiding just beyond the dark curtain our own minds create.
Most of us have likely at least had a taste of it in some unexpected moment. For example, perhaps you were driving down a road when another driver in a loaded pick-up truck pulled out right in front of you and proceeded to slowly drift toward the stoplight you had been hoping to get through. Needless to say, it turned red – and so did you! You might have been filled with a sudden rage and stared daggers at the vehicle in front of you.
But suddenly, being an inner-life student, you came back to yourself, took a deep breath, saw your state and decided to suffer it as best you could. And maybe just then you looked out your window and up into a perfect blue sky, empty except for a large bird making lazy circles in perfect time to the beautiful music playing in your car. You were lifted out of yourself, almost feeling what the bird was feeling, as if you were flying yourself. And you felt joy. A joy that had always been there right beyond the demands and judgment of your own thoughts.
Of course, the specifics of your experience would have been different. But the point is, that’s what we want to feel more consistently. That participation in the wholeness of the moment. That gratitude beyond words.
To get there we need to understand what blocks us from joy; what real joy is about. and what we can do to open ourselves to it.
Guy’s talks on There Is No Greater Joy in Life Than This! will provide a new perspective on our lives; on why we keep pursuing the wrong thing; and how we can begin to find true fulfillment.
Some of the topics Guy will dive into are:
You will come away from these talks with new understanding and practical knowledge to best direct your energies to find the true joy that only self-realization can bring.
What a blessing it is that modern technology allows people around the world to participate in our events. And so, we are delighted to livestream all our September Weekend of Wisdom talks – for free. And we’re also making a Replay Package available at minimal cost.
But nothing compares to being fully immersed in the atmosphere of a genuine inner-life school. So, if you are able to be with us in person, please do come. You’ll feel the amazing energy in the room and be with people who are working, just as you are, to begin to know genuine joy.
Your heart will be filled as you savor an atmosphere that allows you to gather new understanding and feel higher emotions. And you’ll be able to take all of that back with you when you return home, where it will help renew your relationships with others, with yourself – and with the Divine.
Give yourself an experience you will treasure always. Make plans to join us for our intensive September Weekend of Wisdom.
We hope to see you in person, but if that’s not possible, we look forward to having you join us via livestream.
