Here’s a great paradox, and anyone who can solve its mystery stands on the threshold of self-liberation: the only reason any of our troubles linger is because we’ve yet to illuminate the in-the-dark parts of us that keep looking for them!
Connect cause and effect. To connect with something is to give it our attention. To give our attention to something is to exchange energies with it. When our attention doesn't belong to us, we inevitably find ourselves in trouble, experiencing something that was unintended. The task is to connect what we call "cause and effect." The effect you are experiencing in any moment cannot be separated from the interior cause that led you into it. The effect that is unwanted is not the cause of your experience. In the moment where you feel anxious, angry, or fearful, the exercise is to see that what you are blaming for your pain is not the cause of the conflict you are in. The conflict you are in is the effect of being connected to a consciousness that can do nothing other than to place blame on what it perceives as being outside of itself.
