Key Lesson
Part 1
What is the weight of any unwanted moment... other than our resistance to it? Which means the real reason it's so difficult to set this suffering down is because, to do so, demands that we must also lay down the strong sense of self that doesn't exist without what it resists.
Part 2
The real, but unsuspected problem with one's inability to attend -- consciously -- to all that is present in any given moment is that one hasn't sufficient enough attention to even suspect the cost -- let alone the loss -- inherent in his or her unseen condition.
Exercise
Get out of your own way and let the right part of you do what it's intended to do. Catch the unconscious parts of you that react to an unwanted moment with anger, greed, selfishness, anxiety or any other kind of strong reaction, and remember that the event has come for the specific purpose of revealing this lower nature that resists the moment. Instead of thinking about what you need to do to reconcile the unwanted moment, work to surrender the "I" that is born in the moment of resistance in favor of seeing "what is." Who and what you have been in the past cannot change itself. "What was" needs the active force of "what is" to strike it... and the moment in which "what was" and "what is" meet produces the possibility of "I Am." Creation is "what was" being brought into "what is" so that it can be transformed. Consciously dying to the wrong parts of us that resist transformation is the same as allowing what is higher harmonize the moment.
