No one who knows what his life is for gives it away for nothing. In our ignorance we are self-punishers. No creature (except humans) invents its own purpose. We get our purpose from culture, family, and society, but what we take to be our life is not our life.
I must be a kind of warrior. We are a nation of vicarious warriors. We want pleasure and comfort. Life is always playing you on the battlefield. There's always a moment of pushing. We see these moments as punishments. There was a time when people understood that there was an agreement to do the will of God. We must understand what it means to be an instrument.
We are meant to consciously embody the laws of God's life. These laws are never-endingly transforming our lives. To be a warrior means to accept my place. How can the purpose of life be apart from the moment? "I will not avoid the battle of the present moment." I do what is right now.
Life presents a constant battle. Fear is not right for me. I know there is something wrong when I fear people. We are intended to be part of a different order of life. "He who would be great among you, let him be last."
The battle began when time began and it has already been won. The purpose of life is so that something can be born in you. We must carry our own burdens. Every morning we face our enemies. Be willing to go to the test and be shown the inability to face the test. See that the "you" who can't meet the challenge never existed.
