How to Return to Your Real Home

As a person grows older their happiness usually diminishes. Human beings are meant to grow in their capacity to have fun and participate in life. There is a happiness that never goes away but this takes thinking in a new way. It is natural for human beings to long to live in a larger world. From childhood to adulthood, we are looking for ways to know ourselves through this ever-larger world that defines and shapes us. As we develop, impressions that couldn't reach us when we were younger are now accepted. As everything changes it requires a different relationship with life.

No matter what we gain there is still this feeling of emptiness but as soon as it arrives, we imagine another world we can enter into to fulfill ourselves. We don't understand emptiness. We think it is our responsibility to fill the emptiness because we believe it belongs to us. The only way there can be resolution is for us to come into something greater than we are. The self is created to move into a larger world. What carries us from one world into another is maturation.

We are a creation of the waves. We are carried along by our thoughts and feelings that form themselves into justification of why we feel the way we do. We are not separate from the waves that carry us away. A father takes his daughter to the beach. She is unhappy and frightened by the waves. He shows her she can dive under the waves instead of them crashing upon her.

No wave exists that doesn't rise out of something greater than itself. The underpinning of life is the oscillation of eternal waves and human beings are the receptors of their movement. The problem is that we do not understand the purpose of the waves and we attach our content to them to define ourselves. Light is a particle and a wave. We are meant to return home and have fun with the waves, not be identified with the ride of each one. We are meant to move into the world that gives rise to the waves.

Feel yourself being moved alone by the waves. We must find a different relationship with the ocean. Go deeper by taking your attention away from time. Human beings are created with a longing for the light but it can't be defined by what we name. Deliberately bring yourself back to the present moment and break identification. See the wave and get out of its way and let it return to the sea from where it came. You can find the sea in yourself and no matter what the waves bring you won't be lost in them.
