Part 1: Awakening to the presence of some weak, or otherwise painful character at large within us marks the beginning of the end of its command over us.

Part 2: The longer one is able to observe oneself -- all parts of oneself, unadorned -- the less interest one has in being identified with any of these (separate) parts while, at the same time, the more willingly does one commit to do the inner work it takes to witness them.

Remastered Classic Talk: 06/22/16 - If someone can say something to you about yourself that causes you to crash and burn -- so that you never stop smoldering over what they have said -- it's only because you have yet to see the truth of yourself. Here's the fact that not only proves the above, but within it rests the only real solution to this kind of suffering: Any truth you realize about yourself cancels both the fear of that truth as well as the level of self that lives in fear of it.

Remastered Classic Talk: 06/26/2016 - What is True is quiet; it is at peace with itself, whatever it silently reveals. What is untrue has no such peace; it is unable to be silent. What is True has no need to think about, let alone talk to itself about any lie it may see. What is untrue can't stop talking to itself in order to cover up what it doesn't want to see, ceaselessly telling itself that it sees truly.

Classroom Talk: 4/9/2023 - We can keep running through our day -- rushing to get to where the next thought tells us we need to be -- or we can work to let these painful impulses pass into, and through us; there is no other choice: either we're awake, and aware of the presence of this "demanding self" -- watchful, and willing to die to its dark will -- or we're caught in its draft, in a painful race going nowhere fast.
