Sunflowers bend when their heads are full. Human beings don't bow. They break. What fills us is breaking us. Our lives fly in the face of everything that's good. We're not filled with what is right, which would make us bend in gratitude. We're self-filling, and that's what breaks us.
You can't separate the purpose of something from its being. The being that is the embodiment of that purpose is never more fulfilled than when acting out its purpose. Our purpose is to see God's purpose fulfilled in all things at all times. We're broken because we're filled with invented purposes. Every condition in life must work in concert with its purpose, or else one or the other is false. Human beings blame conditions, but the real problem is the invented purpose.
Part of the purpose of a human being's life is to learn what it means to be in a constant state of asking God for help. This is basic to fulfilling all other purposes.
Remembering God and receiving His help are one and the same thing. Remembering God means one establishes relationship with God, the Light, through his or her awareness of that Light. One brings into the moment something other than his or her own purpose. But it is distasteful for a human being to admit he is broken and needs to be fixed. We must be poor in spirit -- incapable of believing in our own purposes. Then our need for help becomes present to us, and then everything we need is there for us. Notice your terror of not being able to draw upon what has always saved you. But by remembering God we can draw upon our wish and understanding that the condition is not a punishment, but present to help me fulfill my purpose.
God made you to want His Light in your life more than you want to be a light unto yourself. God says, "Ask Me. Remember Me."
Part of your terror is your unconscious conviction that you're in this by yourself. Set yourself on the side of God, and all else will come to you accordingly.
