"If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas:" The only reason that we agree to be in a relationship with any punishing thought or feeling is because -- each time -- we become so immediately identified with not wanting to feel its painful presence that we keep forgetting to remember -- and to practice -- this one spiritual fact that can free us from all dark states: it's in our power to know what something feels like before we pick it up.
