Stop being paralyzed by resistance. The condition outside of us is never responsible for the pain we're in. All negative states begin with resistance as its root. Poison spreads through the system, as something in us insists the moment should not be as it is. Insistence creates resistance; what you resist creates new desires. We are not meant to be locked down, dwelling on what we don't want. Every moment of our life passes, but only if we let it. What is endlessly painful can become endlessly enlightening. Awareness will not take part in its own defeat. Be aware of the paralysis of resistance coming over you. Remember to remember yourself. Take a few deep breaths, deliberately relax from resistance, relax from thought, relax from memory. Let the moment pass. When you become aware of the resistance, begin to do what is in your power, and refuse to do what is not. Calmly look at the circumstance and take one step at a time. Don't try to get rid of the pain, just deal with the particulars. Let everything play out in front of your open eyes, heart, and mind. It is not in your power to change your resistance to the moment, but to change your relationship to the consciousness that is responsible for it. Become a student of the resistance, instead of the captive you've been up until now.
