Connect resistance with insistence. We do not usually consider the fact that there can be no resistance without insistence. Resistance is insistance. Resistance and insistance are one thing. The exercise is to recognize that any painful moment is full of resistance because you are full of insistence. You presently believe that the thing you are reacting to outside of yourself is the cause of your captivity. But now when you feel yourself resisting a moment, turn your attention back around to yourself and inwardly ask, "What is this insistence? What am I so identified with?" Then, instead of reacting and then identifying with what the insistence says the problem is, see the relationship between the resistance you feel and the insistence that comes along with it at the same time. Don't judge yourself for what you see. Understand that it is a process of revelation. This is not you releasing yourself; instead it is you agreeing to see in this consciousness the relationship between resistance and insistance. Work at this and you will be liberated, and what you will be liberated from is your own mistaken perception of the moment.
