You can't think your way into happiness, nor analyze your way out of aching. These are unwanted facts because we want to be responsible for our own joy.
The church of the world is based on a conspiracy. We come to LOL because we don't want to forget: my life is not about winning and owning things. My life is not meant to be about running over things in my mind. We are supposed to have love. It's part of our being willing to suffer so someone else won't have to. A real church is a place of remembrance, built on self-sacrifice, not self-glory.
Every place in the universe has its place and counterpart. So does the human heart. The real partner of the human heart is the Eternal Flame. Without that the heart is empty, and doesn't serve the purpose for which it was created.
Story: In a distant country, it was cold and people had to constantly collect wood to keep their fires going. The CWIPA union enforced a policy that people had to collect wood so that they would have some to get back when they were older. (When we have nothing, we imagine "a fire to be." As the young man grew older, he couldn't collect as much wood, but the CWIPA told him they had a "shortfall."
He came upon a cottage where an old man had a fire going that was the warmest, purest fire he'd ever felt, a fire that never went out. The old man told the young man, "the good king made this possible for me."
"Will the king do this for me?"
"Just ask."
The heart that longs to see The King will be granted the petition. We're afraid to confess, "I can't keep a fire going."
We don't understand what it means to 'knock and the door shall be opened." It's not the action, but the willingness to take the action.
The young man falls into a swoon. When he wakes up, it seems his fire had gone out. But then he sees that the last embers fell into a grate in a special room beneath the house where the flame had been kept alive.
Every day, we are supposed to collect the wood. If you make sacrifices you shall receive. We must do the daily work of tending the fire. We are not on this planet to think about ourselves. Our hearts are meant to have God in them, and nothing else will do.
