Ask a new question. We presently meet disturbances with resistance that fills us with negativity and a host of questions looking to know why things are the way they are. But the mind asks these questions from the content of its past experience, so we're always given old questions that can only lead to old answers that have never worked. To find self-liberation we must turn around and begin walking in the right direction. We must begin asking new questions. When you feel the contraction of fear in an unwanted moment, do your best to see that the reaction you're experiencing is due to the mind's old questions and answers. Instead of following that habitual pattern, turn inward and consciously ask yourself, "What is the real question that has to be asked here?" The suspension of the old questions is a new question that leads to a new answer. If we want self-liberation, we're going to have to recognize the old patterns. Ask a new question, which begins with awareness of the old consciousness.
