Most of the time we are not aware of the fullness of real life because we are too busy trying to fill ourselves with what we think we need to be happy. We are not intended to supply ourselves with a self-created happiness. In fact, our frantic search for happiness perpetuates the nagging feeling of discontent. Instead of looking outside of ourselves for fulfillment in a time to come, we need to become aware of our own interior life in the present moment, and let that awareness show us what we need to see about ourselves.
All of the happiness, meaning, and contentment we will ever need is already living within us in the present moment. We can begin to be in relationship with this special kind of abiding fulfillment the instant that we stop struggling in vain to complete ourselves through yet another plan. Real life is always inviting us to participate more fully in it, and that very participation itself is the higher meaning that our heart of hearts has been searching for.
