See Into and Be Free of the Forces Keeping You from Changing

Change is now or never. If we want to be truly different, we must see what is keeping us from changing. It is the lower nature in us that is always giving us "explanations" for the pain in our lives. Explanations are the way in which this consciousness protects its identity. All explanations are "post mortem". They only serve to separate us from the lesson inherent in the moment. Explaining or justifying my anger, cruelty, weakness, etc. is a way to conceal what has just been revealed. It seems to prove that we understand the moment - that we've "hit the mark" - but that is false. Every explanation of a psychological nature is retrospective. It has nothing to do with the actual moment, but what my mind has reflected on and called "the moment". Stop explaining yourself to yourself. "Who am I without an explanation for myself in this moment?" Identify situations where a familiar "explanation" is mechanically offered to you. Stop being a puppet of your reactions.
