Catch the Negative "Why" and Let it Die

What stands in the way of learning the true meaning of coming awake to yourself? We are blinded by the "why?" nature. There are two kinds of why's. One is a powerful and positive affirmation, as when you wonder why something is the way it is, accompanied by a willingness to go into the unknown. But the second why is a refusal to go the way life wants us to go.

There is a passage from Christ -- "You can't serve two masters, for you shall love the one and hate the other." There is a great secret in this, and it's nothing to do with what we think it means. It actually refers to a divided mind. Just before this passage are the words, "The light of the body is the eye, and if that eye is single then the whole body is of light; but if that eye be evil then the whole body will be in darkness."

The "thought" nature serves two masters at once, as it only knows itself through comparison and the opposites. The first master assures me that what is happening to me is wrong - and that master got its info from a second master who draws on the content of our past to prove it. Such a mind lives in endless conflict.

When we meet an unwanted moment we're in the hands of this Master of the Past whose sole purpose is to keep itself going, and it causes us to miss the lesson of the moment. But there isn't a disturbance that passes through us that doesn't contain what we need to in order to transform.

In these moments we must remember the "Why 'Why?'?" exercise. Every time you hear the first why - the dark Master of the Past, which wants to drag you away - remember to ask yourself the second why. That is - catch the negative why and let it die.
