Make Your Way to the Well of Happiness

No one who follows anything can ever be free. We are limited to ideas of what we think we will receive. We follow our own thoughts about what we think we're following. Discontentment is a sign of followers.

Familiarity breeds contempt. Contempt occurs because the image in our mind can no longer bring the sensation it used to. I have experienced the content of pleasure, now I experience the pain of you. We follow the image, the sensation of pleasure, then another new desire comes up. I try to get away from unhappiness by imagining something. I don't realize that I can only imagine what I know. That is a dead-end path. When you see that, you cease to be a follower. If I can see it in my mind's eye, it goes nowhere.

What is wrong is that it is just part of the story. The root of our existence is a false root. All imagination produces a false sense of self. It is incapable of delivering what can really make us content. The opposites (playing within us) are the familiarity but we blame things outside us for the contempt.

My mind has an earthly form but there is another mind capable of beholding the lower mind. There is the known image of our own making and then there is the untouched- what the mind doesn't create.

Story: A student of the higher life sought a teacher who was known to have a well of happiness. The student began following him, but never saw the well. The teacher said, "The well of happiness is never farther than where you are. It is your own divine nature."

Happiness doesn't exist in the mind that uses you. 

Four Natural States of Mind:
-- Practical thought 
-- Passive Awareness- When you're quiet in order to receive something you can't give to yourself.
-- Prayer
-- Contemplation- pondering the glories of God

The Fifth State is the mind surrendered to Silence. The human mind is held in another Mind and knows it. Then one begins to live where life is Untouched.
