Our life suddenly gets taken over by sorry, angry, fearful thoughts. These floods roll along and try to find an end to themselves. We think that hatred of the flood is separate from the flood. We've learned to live with a daily lashing. We aren't on earth to be dominated by the forces of darkness.
Story: A wealthy man gave his son the opportunity to go to his cotton farm. The father said, "If you make the farm profitable, I will make you profitable." The problem was that the two mules that were supposed to serve him were out of control. They did what they wanted.
The old man who lived on the farm told the boy that if he let the mules run the farm, he would lose it. He said, first you have to separate them, no food for a while, no wandering, they can only walk when you're between them, either they work or they rest.
The parts of us that try to rule anything are under the rule of the opposites. We are always in the hands of one or the other. The only moment that can be mastered is the moment of creation. That occurs right now. I must be "between the mules." The Light must attend to every moment.
We are intended to serve the will of God, not the will of desire. We have been given a "farm" and everything we need to make it profitable. But we serve "beasts" that don't care about making the farm profitable. There must be one "I," one will that all other wills must present themselves to. Separate from the "animals." Don't let your mind walk away with you. Take one prayer and give your will to that thought. Make it what you serve. Let that "I' be under God.
