Putting our life in God's hands does not mean that we hand Him our wish list for life, but rather that we make His life our wish. When God's will becomes our sole wish in life, then whatever happens to us not only fulfills our wish, but we realize it has always been our wish right from the start.
- We cannot give ourselves peace, security, or love; they are not to be possessed, only participated within. The secret gateway to their life is in their eternal presence that can only be entered into Now.
- It isn't until the ground drops out from beneath us for the hundredth time that we suddenly realize falling down is not our only option. Faintly, but surely, if we will listen, another law in our own nature calls us to realize its power: we can catch, suspend, and drop our own weighted reactions. And so it goes that we slowly learn to take wing.
- Anger, fear, resentment, and blame are not the bitter leftovers of whatever we think blew into our life and battered us around. Negative states are a storm in themselves; and to see them as such is the first step towards anchoring the vessel of our soul in a safe harbor.
- The conviction we need to make real changes in ourselves comes with this revelation: what we really need isn't another new idea about who we should be, but the grace-granted courage to discontinue being who we have been.
- Here is why honest self-examination is always the best prescription for whatever troubles the heart: the light of higher self-knowledge not only reveals those secret places within us where hides our pain, but, for its enlightening action upon those still darkened places, begins their healing transformation as well.
- It is what we are willing to learn in the unfolding moment, and not what we think we already know, that finally turns the tide of any trial in our favor. This is why the wise ones have always taught that knowledge is the seed of wisdom, but its flowering is in conscious action.
Spiritual patience is born in us as we grow to realize that our individual lives are forever being revealed in a great clockwork whose tireless and timeless mainspring is Love. Our part in this inexorable movement of life is not to resist what appears untimely in its unfolding but -- providing we will remain open, watchful and honest about what is being revealed -- to realize that everything needed for the perfection of our peace does arrive.
