Once something has outlived its usefulness in one area of life, its purpose for being in existence is no longer the same. The leaf that captures a stream of sunlight, and then transfers its energy to the tree, serves one purpose in the spring and summer, and another completely different one through the fall and winter. Once something has outlived its usefulness, its purpose for being in existence is no longer needed. The leaf that captures a stream of sunlight and then transfers its energy to the tree serves one purpose in the spring and summer and another completely different purpose through the fall and winter. Its form first appears as an agent to help feed the tree and then, as it dies and falls to the earth, the same leaf becomes food for the tree.

Classroom Talk: 9/25/2024 - Here's why it's impossible to (try and) protect ourselves from the fear of uncertainty or disappointment and - at the same time - hope to deepen our relationship with the Divine: self-realization is (our) atonement with the ceaseless revelation that emptiness and fullness are to one another...as are the four seasons that seemingly turn from one into the other.
Classroom Talk: 12/24/2004 - Whenever we can remember that we would rather smile about what life brings us than suffer over it -- that our natural preference is happiness, not hurtfulness -- then in such moments of being mindful of what we love most... can't we also strive to remember how much better it is, for everyone, to brighten the life of another rather than to darken it in our forgetfulness?
Student Talks: 1/10/2025 - It's not the unwanted moment that limits our possibilities, but rather that we meet it from a limited part of us; where, without our knowing it, an unconscious nature has already decided not just the meaning of that event, but what we can -- or cannot -- do about it; where our choices in each moment are predetermined by our conditioned reaction to it.
Guy Finley talks about how unnecessary anxiety, fear and suffering can come to an end when we voluntarily agree to become conscious of the parts of ourselves that presently hide out in the dark.
