We can neither control, nor change any anxious thought or feeling that rushes in and sweeps us off of our feet because this “I” -- this sense of self suddenly in a struggle to escape some psychological storm -- is itself part of the tempest it so vigorously resists.
Poorest of us all... are those who “hear & obey” only their own reactions, because as long as that in-the-dark level of self remains in “power” -- calling the shots -- we will never see how our struggle to escape unwanted moments serves but one useless end...
When living within the limits of what is known is also seen as being the limitation of your spiritual possibilities, then there is no recourse other than to depart the safety of all that you have been... in favor of discovering all you are yet to be.
The attempt to "save" ourselves -- to rescue and release the troubled "me" -- without first understanding just who and what this nature is that would save itself from its suffering, is the first real threshold over which the sincere aspirant must pass... since the presumption on the part of the seeker here is that he or she knows what's wrong with their life...
