Being in unconscious pain and having compassionate consideration of others are incompatible possibilities... which is why if we ever hope to "love our neighbor as ourselves" we must learn what it means to suffer consciously. Only then will we stop causing others needless suffering because, in the awareness of our own stress or sorrow, we would never add such heartache to anyone else.
The pain and stress of uncertainty persists in us not because uncertainty is some mandatory Reality but because there are parts of us that fear -- and therefore resist -- having an unknown future. Our "solution" is to unconsciously imagine a desirable secure time to come... an image whose unseen mirrored opposite is (by law) the uncertain self whose painful desires drive this dark cycle.
One maxim of self-development I sense is true is that the way out of any stressful situation is to "go through it." How does the approach apply to reducing stress-producing thought-attacks? Everything depends upon our ability to inwardly discriminate between thoughts and feelings that are for us as opposed to those that are against us.
