Remastered Classic Talk: 12/30/15 - The whole idea of wanting "more" cannot be separated from the idea that one doesn't have "enough." Seen properly -- unmistakably evident in this revelation -- is that one's lifelong pursuit of "more" is, in fact, spent in the service of an incomplete, constantly needy nature that, at best, can only be momentarily satisfied.
No image is alive. If the pictures we cling to had the power to satisfy the desire that creates them, then a picture of food would ease our hunger, and painting a smile on the reflection of our face in a mirror would help console our broken heart.
The divided mind -- driven by desire, as it is -- is very similar to a dog that has learned to throw its own stick. It cannot come to a rest until it has exhausted itself, and even then it can't let go of what it feels compelled to chase.
Whenever we find ourselves having some unwanted experience that is the last thing we desire, we should work in that same moment to recollect that this experience is nothing less than the natural outcome of what we, in our spiritual sleep, have continued to put first in our life.
