The strange attraction we can't overcome to our own negative states is born out of our resistance to them, because this resistance -- i.e., of not wanting to feel the way we do -- is the same as giving our attention to the painful feeling we profess not to want!...
When we realize that the world around us is powerless to grant our wish for a sense of real permanency, our attention naturally turns toward that uncharted country within us where, as our eyes accustom themselves to the light therein, we catch a glimpse of our Eternal Home.
