While the desire to be perfect runs through the very fiber of our soul, how to fulfill the longing of this greater love is a question few find the answer to, and here is why: The path to self-perfection weaves its secret way through the land of imperfection, where only the conscious awareness of where we actually are (in this land) changes forever where we stand.

Remastered Classic Talk: 5/03/17 - Within each of us dwells a dark and lower nature whose chief feature it is to ensure that the "perfection" of its imagined wants is never called into doubt. Each time we identify with one of its dark dreams -- taking it as our own -- we consent to not only embody the ceaseless hunger of this sleeping self, but also to live with its fear of seeing that it will never be able to complete itself with what it wants.

Remastered Classic Talk: 11/4/15 - Here is the obvious, but rarely acknowledged reason why we must dig in and do the difficult inner work needed for real self-transformation: if we don't change, we gradually come to wholly embody the very weaknesses whose destructive nature we wish weren't (living) within us. The courage to see the truth of this inevitable outcome gives us the reason, the will and the courage we need to succeed in our quest to regain command over our own heart, mind, and soul.

There isn't an instant in which you and I are not being touched by life for the purpose of life being changed by its own touch. Creation is never not happening. But to take part in it, to be a participant in it, requires that we understand that presently we are meeting life from a mind that is fast asleep in itself because it is intimately connected with desire that imagines a way to resolve itself.

Awareness of the need to meet life in a whole new way always precedes the will (to be able) to do it.

Whether his fear is for the loss of some imagined estate, or for his longing to gain the respect of others, here is why no one can hope to ever possess that which he fears losing: As long as one's heart and mind is ruled over by any desire, such a person does not rule himself . . . And how can someone who doesn't even possess himself ever hope to own anything else?...

Achievements in and of themselves change little in us they amount to little more than a merit badge that tarnishes in time; rather it is the suffering we consciously endure in the name of love that helps to perfect and transform our nature into something newer and truer; it is not what we acquire, but what we give (up) that actually enriches us.

True spiritual principles fail to free us because we call on them for the wrong purpose at the wrong time. Such principles are not for our protection, but to help us see, first hand, that there's no such "self" as we've imagined is in danger. Higher principles are not meant...

Until our first wish and work is to remember ourselves with each step we take, we don't know that we're walking the path of forgetfulness.

Whenever we kneel to the temptation of some consoling indulgence, or struggle to acquire a power to protect us from a fear... we yield to, and serve the pleasure of a darkened desire that has promised, once again, to save us from (our) pain...
