Classroom Talk: 5/20/2020 - Whether to resist a challenging, unwanted moment, or to persist with our wish to transcend whatever limitation it reveals in us... that is the question! Classroom Talk: 11/03/2024 - Persistence – without our awareness of the parts of us that steadily insist there’s no further we can go – is a recipe for frustration; this painful sense of self slowly morphs from simple despair into an unholy cynicism that, in turn, serves to confirm what we see as our own unwanted, but unavoidable conclusion: we’ve no other choice but to give up our wish to transcend whatever limitation we’d been called to outgrow.

Student Talks: 12/26/2025 - Awakening is the sudden, and often quite shocking realization that what we had taken to be the whole of our life…isn’t, any more than you can see the whole of a starry night through a skylight.
Topics covered: The sleeping mind convinces us that something outside of us is to blame for whatever feeling -- "good" or "bad" -- is coursing through us at any given moment; The sleeping mind is always trying to find itself in conditions outside of itself; Resistance nullifies all of the higher qualities and faculties that we have the potential to be in relationship with...
No event itself creates anger (in us) anymore than a flame causes a moth to fly into it and be consumed. Events serve to reveal our nature (to us) by stirring and releasing from its un-plumbed depths some quality or character within it, bringing up and into us an awareness of its (unimaginable) potential.
Topics covered: There are three forces that are essential in the action of creation: an active force, a passive force, and a reconciling force; Is there any painful moment in our lives that is not preceded by resistance to something?; There can't be resistance without something in our consciousness that describes the moment and blames its pain on something outside of itself.
