You and I live from a black and white mentality. That means, we live from a mind that, in its divided state, is entirely the captive of opposites. For us, this idea of good and bad, black and white, means that "I know." I was told what was good. And by the way, how were you told what was good? Here's your parent saying, "Don't you be like that. You told a fib. You white-lied. Oh, hell is coming to you, it is. Hell's coming to you because you never should lie.
We are made in the image of the Divine. Now, that doesn't mean all that we hope it means. It actually means more than that! It means that you and I, as humans, exist in a temporal form that is, for all intents and purposes, a place where a host of magnificent laws and forces converge. Opposing forces reconcile and create a body that is essentially the mirror of a set of perfect opposites -- right hand, left hand, right eye, left eye.
We find it natural to seek relief from the world around us, a world appearing to be one stronghold atop another of stressful conditions and anxiety-producing events. Accordingly, we seek relief from these contentment-crushing states by struggling to change those circumstances we see as being responsible for their cause. Think of all the ways we've attempted to escape those unwanted pressures...
What a strange mystery; a paradox locked in some seemingly timeless conflict. After all how can all of us feel this great need for change, to make ourselves and the world we live in a better, a kinder place to live for all...
At times it seems to me that the more I realize about the awesome nature of spiritual love, the more loneliness I feel in my current human relationships. I long to share my discoveries with others, but who do I turn to? A certain kind of loneliness, of feeling ourselves all alone, is a necessary portion of the path to the higher life. This sense of being alone comes out of realizing what...
There are some things we should all know -- without having to think about it: humanity is headed in the wrong direction. Everyone knows this except for those who believe they can benefit from tearing their own ship apart -- while it's still at sea -- in order to sell its pieces at a profit. But, much as in the timeless story of "The Emperor's Clothes," where no one would speak the truth of th...
Several times each week, at a minimum, I receive a certain type of email... whose similar question or concern comes from people all over this globe, but whose "heart" is one and the same for all people in all places: Why is this world so cruel; why is so much abuse sustained by those helpless to resist; why do these things happen as they do? Here are some thoughts: This world is governed, at...
I receive many letters that either ask me, or direct me to change my perspective on something that I've sent out into the world either through a book, an audio program, or through the web. These notes deal mostly with that person's spiritual or religious view that has been "rubbed" in the wrong way by what I have stated as being true. For example, here's the latest of these notes: "The 'god'...
Question: Thanks to your teachings, I have new understanding of how each experience reveals to me what I am in relationship with, and for the first time ever I see that I have the choice of knowing I am not thoughts of resistance, and that I don't have to follow any pull of false promises in challenging moments. I have seen a Presence that guides me, that allows an inner space in which to watch it all unfolding. This Grace has taught me that I am...
Here are just ten small places in our lives where we are trying to do the impossible -- struggling to do what cannot (and need not) be done -- and where, because of our misunderstanding, we unknowingly hurt ourselves.
Dare to put aside all relationships other than those which serve to reveal what is essential to your real desire.
The realization that there are parts of us that are against us can hit us with a jolt. But when we see that these wrong parts have actually created the pains that they then falsely promise to free us of, we eagerly seek -- and find -- the real Friend who will bring all pains to an end.
