We affirm the Light of Truth -- not by professing its powers on sunny days, but in choosing to walk by its Light -- no matter how faint -- even in the midst of our darkest hour when all that we see before us is defeat.
Only the person who never gives up in life, who persists with his wish to find and fulfill the promise of himself, makes this truly self-liberating discovery: those places that he once mistook as being impassible barriers to his happiness become as bridges to the same, but only if he learns to welcome them as part of his journey.
Higher Understanding affirms each moment for it is, by nature, one with a living and intelligent universe that wills the endless creation it expresses. While ignorance denies each moment, for it dwells in a dark little world of its own -- apart from all that it sees -- fearing that whatever it sees unfolding before it may turn out to be its undoing.
True contentment is never a question of the extent of our possessions, or the ability to temporarily please ourselves; rather it is found in a still sleeping part of ourselves that, once awakened, is empowered to detect and reject those parts of us that would have us believe the success we long for exists somewhere outside of our own awakened Self.
Part I: All internal disturbances, in and of themselves, are blind...and if you understand this one psychological/spiritual Truth, then you also understand one of the higher internal meanings of "The blind lead the blind, and both fall in the pit." Part II: Fear knows as much about freedom as a shark knows about the nature of the stars.
Fear is what happens to us whenever we forget that the One who created us fears nothing. True courage is remembering this Truth and then daring to act upon it in the face of a fear. There is no other cause of fear, and no other true solution. Awareness of this Truth awakens in us the action that sets us free.
As much as I have listened to your talks on breaking through the fear barrier, my fears still come to haunt me. How can I actually stop being afraid once and for all?...
How does one not succumb to the Holiday frenzy when one has kids who anticipate Santa and gifts and so on and on. We've moved our gift giving to New Year's eve but even this does not feel quite right. Please comment if possible. (From student correspondence)...
You are the field, and the Timeless Treasure hidden within it so . . . Why seek elsewhere? Not to mention that every other field that you go out looking for; including whatever treasure you may uncover there; already dwells within you, as well. But . . . these fields, and their riches always pass in time. They are but reflections of the Real... Illusions...
Our true role in creation is not to conceive what we want to receive -- to imagine being made whole... but rather our task in this world is to fulfill the First Order of Our Being: consciously waiting, ever receptive to the least touch of something Divine... and then -- from that energy -- to be the instrument that quietly conceives only what is there and then seen as needed in its appropriate...
Only those who dare to be still, who come willingly -- as often as possible -- to a complete interior stop, will ever see the following truth; (it is) the foundation of a mind that lives in a world without fear or conflict: no moving part of your persona -- no single thought, no wave of emotion -- nothing that derives a sense of identity from either one of these familiar, but involuntary, move...
A tree has many leaves, and the wind touches all of them...in one way or another. Some shake, some quiver, some hardly move at all. Yes, the tree knows their trembling; but neither the wind, nor the leaves it stirs are the tree that feels their fleeting touch. Thoughts and feelings are like leaves. Learning to watch them wave is much better than being carried away with every breeze.
