Remember, all comes in waves; the only thing that changes is their direction, which must happen by law. The only thing unchanging is the ocean from which these waves come. To know this truth, and to "rest" in it, is to not resist the waves when they move counter to one's wishes.
There is nothing in the past over which to suffer, and no impulse to do so without first having been tempted and then deceived into revisiting, and then resisting the pain of some old memory...
Any part of us that wants to give us a good reason why we are stuck somewhere in life is secretly a partner in that pain it first protests, and then seems to resist. To see the truth of this insight sets the stage for how to never feel stuck again.
Whether to resist a challenging, unwanted moment, or to persist with our wish to transcend whatever limitation it reveals in us... that is the question! But to be clear, which of these two possibilities flowers into a greater power all depends on the one that we choose to nourish and grow.

The better we understand the following correlation, the sooner we'll recognize and be willing to walk the upward path that leads to the end of unconscious suffering: the more negative we become over any unwanted condition, the less we understand about ourselves and, accordingly, our unseen role in the very condition we so eagerly resist.
