This means our suffering isn’t created by the unwanted situation blamed for it, rather it is the negative effect of being identified with a lower level of consciousness that believes the best way to deal with unwanted moments...is by not wanting them!

While it's impossible to be entirely free of a psychological body -- including the elements inherent in the constant appearance of its deeply conditioned reactions -- we are free to change our relationship to that body and -- in so doing -- start working to liberate ourselves from being unconsciously identified with what amounts to negative thoughts and feelings of the self-created kind.

Guy recalled a time from his early adulthood when he had worked with laborers and had observed them to be very lighthearted, despite the difficulty of their work and how little they made from it. He felt a certain kind of shame at his own discontent, and came to the realization that it would be a very different world if we could learn to love our lives differently.

This, our world... is a virtual desert, but not because the earth herself is infertile. Rather it's because we -- human consciousness itself -- are barren: we bear no Light, let alone the Child within us... meant to be born out of its abiding Presence.

All of our imagined hopes and plans for the promising pleasures of "tomorrow" are crafted by the parts of us determined to keep us from seeing what we're being given to see about ourselves in each and every present moment.

When all is well with us, we open ourselves up to the words of the wise, welcoming their counsel; but whenever some painful trial comes knocking at our door -- bringing with it the possibility of real-time wisdom that nothing else can provide -- we slam shut the door of our heart and mind, wanting no words with it!...
